Extreme cold warning in place for Labrador and Northern Peninsula East. Strong winds and an arctic airmass means wind chill values between -35 and -45 tonight and tomorrow morning. Bundle up if you're heading out because exposed skin can freeze within 5-10 mins. #nlwx https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DxH8WdKVYAU_H2v.jpg">https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DxH8Vl1UcAAFasm.jpg

Snow squalls showing up on the west coast. A snow squall watch has been issued with the risk of squalls through the night tonight and that means reduced visibility and potential whiteout conditions in heavy snow bands. #nlwx https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DxIxgIkXcAcRNDk.jpg">https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DxIxffiW0AE10kk.jpg

Here's what your weekend is looking like in NL.
A weak system rolls through Labrador tonight, so flurries or light snow the story across the province, looks like a trace to 5 cm with locally higher amounts along the west coast and then western Labrador. This system is also why we are going to see some relief with warmer temperatures and continue on this roller coaster ride we’ve been on.
The snow moves through quickly, should be over by mid afternoon tomorrow across the board with a mix of sun and cloud. For eastern Newfoundland temperatures hovering just above zero so likely seeing a brief period of wet snow or showers tomorrow afternoon. In behind that we get back into the COLD weather, and temperatures drop like a rock down to the minus teens overnight again, minus 20-30's for Labrador.
Sunday is when our next major weather maker moves in. Snow to start Sunday afternoon for central and western NL same with Labrador and then add strong winds to the mix. So expect poor travel conditions through the day. It's a bit too early to throw out snowfall numbers but it’s looking like quite a bit. Then temperatures climb and will see a change over to rain through ice pellets and freezing rain. Best chance of significant freezing rain as of now looks like the west coast and east towards the Baie Verte Peninsula. Then comes the RAIN. This is where things get really messy. Clear your storm drains if we’ve learned anything from what happened on the Avalon earlier this week. The combination of snow and the warm temperatures and heavy rain will likely lead to flooding, especially for the west and south coast.
***This system is still a number of days away and the track may change so keep an eye on the forecast through the weekend.
Flooding possible for the west and south coast Monday. -
