CBC Forum: Do Trump and Clinton have their nominations sewn up?
Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump continues to win primaries, winning in Florida, Ohio and North Carolina Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton won at least four states, dealing a severe blow to Bernie Sanders' bid to slow her march toward the Democratic nomination. Do Trump and Clinton have this in the bag?

Good morning and welcome to the CBC Forum. I'm your host John Bowman.
-
It's even more of an uphill battle for candidates not named Trump or Clinton after last night's Super Tuesday results.
-
From this morning: Donald Trump predicts riots if denied Republican nomination
-
They have tried everything to discredit Trump: racist, sexist, xenophobe, anti-Islamist, anti-American. However, it seems that the establishments old trickery is failing them. Provocateurs being sent to disrupt his rallies. Americans are seeing through the smoke and mirrors. People in power are reeling.
-
Fractured is the wrong word.
It looks more like voters are uniting under one umbrella, determined to change a very corrupt political system.
Go Trump go. -
The media is sponsored by anti trump allies. It's no wonder the American public is polarized on Trump campaign. This is the same media that encouraged Clinton, Bushes and Obama in the white house. Go Trump
-
Last week: Donald Trump welcomes Ben Carson endorsement.

It just kills CBC to know that a common sense no frills guy will be in power next door... We need that in Canada. Just the way you report it with words like bilious says this isn't news, it's an opinion blog. But in an election people get the govt they want, while most people didn't vote Trudeau it's what we got. So why can't the US have Trump?
-
Trump and Sanders are flipsides of the same anti-establishment coin. Is it really a surprise that the American people are flocking to Trump (and to some extent Sanders)? The elites have been ripping off the American people for decades, and Trump is the first serious contender to challenge them.
-
clinton most likely -----trump NO ---the trump /not trump delegate count is even ---apporox 660 each
trump lives in mortal fear of a brokered convention for good reason ----dont count kasich out -
Whether or not you like his antics. He has pretty much financed the campaign himself. He is allowed to say what ever he wants because he isn't tied to a corporation or any other influential group.
While I think he would be a horrible president, it would be nice not to have someone in that office is tied to major corporations for a change. -
Excellent primary result. Democracy at its finest. It's always amusing how the elite media, like the CBC, has such disdain for the choice of the voter.
-
What exactly do Trump supporters think he will get done? He has provided no policy platform, only platitudes. More than half of the things his supporters seem to align with are unconstitutional and/or illegal. The other half would be political suicide to more than half of his Republican caucus.
-
He looks like he only has one finger up on that picture..... just saying.
I also enjoy the fact that CBC covers the US elections better and more in depth than whatever is happening in Canada or during our elections... and ours usually only last a few weeks while these ones are simply never ending... -
Despite the best efforts of the mostly-left news outlets, the almost-left Democrats and whatever is left of the Republican party, Trump is still in the race. In fact he's leading it.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry if he ends up in the White House, though. -
-
trump supporters think he is sticking it to the man on their behalf ------trump is using them for his own purposes --in effect sticking it to THEM
-
And who does CNN get yesterday to comment about Trump...Jerry Springer!!!!!! Gotta love it.
-
I find it rich that fellow like Rubio (senate that never worked with Obama) and Romney (acting like an idiot is bad, but being greedy, self serving, and entitled is ok) speak about dangers. Do I support Trump, no. But this fracturing they speak of began a long time ago with Nixon and Reagan, when profit (see business schools) was put ahead of wellbeing of all citizens. Trump isn't dangerous. All of them are!
-
The navel gazing by the media is akin to how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. In December even our 14 year old son knew it would be Trump vs Clinton.
-
The idea that Trump is not, himself, a member of the elite is ridiculous.
-
Trump will bring disgrace to the right wing for decades to come. He is the darling of the reality tv generation, the ugly American who rules by bullying and belittling his opponents.
-
Trump is the benefactor of a fractured GOP, with no strong establishment alternative, why else was their 16 nominees to begin with? It's a process that started with Palin's VP nomination, and ultimately has its roots in the racist underpinnings of many GOP supporters. The Black President, sprinkled with recent progressive wins in the Supreme Court, has those low-intelligence, mostly racist supports barking mad. However, I expect similar results to the 1968 and 1972 contests, where fringe candidates won the party nominations. In either case, it equalled massive losses for those parties supporting the wing-nuttery. I understand the anti-establishment sentiment, and see why Bernie Sanders has made inroads. Unfortunately, when you then add low-information voters to the mix, you get a candidate like Trump. Someone with know substantive policy positions, who would be an absolute disaster in office. Appeals to emotions and fear work great in the primaries, but the independents and some GOP supports will hold their nose and vote Clinton in November. Trump all but assures a majority senate and big gains in Congress for the Democrats. Music to my ears, as it rids the U.S. of the Party of 'No'.
-
does the name H,tiler come to mind. this is seriously getting scary! No one worried about him until it was too late and then rather then admit to being wrong then let it continue!!!!!!
-
I find it more than a little ironic that politicians are accusing someone of "preying on fear". Pretty sure Trump doesn't hold the monopoly on that tactic...
-
The RNC establishment got shown the middle finger by its members. Not surprising; the only hope they have of beating Hillary is Trump. And given Trump is public enemy #1 of BOTH parties, he would be my pick for sure. In the pocket of NOBODY.
-
The time for taking sides is passed. It is now time to get behind the presumptive leader.
-
When it reaches the convention it will look something like this. Trump 1100 Cruz 900 Kasich 300 Rubio 175 all others combined 50.
Then the deals get made. I have no idea what they will do because Cruz and Trump are hated by the party but there will be riots if one of them is not the nominee. -
Donald Trump's successful election to the Presidency will mark a significant turning point in Western politics. The common people are attracted to his blunt style and his personal success as a businessman. He marks the end of socialist-born political correctness and political elitism fostered by less wealthy self-entitled career politicians. Unfortunately for Canada, he doesn't give a damn about free trade and in the interests of US policy and expediency (which is what he is all about) he won't give a damn about our sovereignty. When responding to Donald Trump, Trudeau's words will be 'yes, Sir' and we will pay for having elected a weak left-wing pacifist prime minister.
-
Kasich would have to show surprising strength and success down the stretch to consider him as a legit choice for the nominee. My guess is that Cruz will be the choice because they know what they are getting and he is the only one you could nominate other than Trump without it feeling like it was stolen from them.
-
Pretty much! The party should get behind trump ! Who is this loser trying to influence the election ! Let the voters decide! Romney is a loser! All he did was by ccompany's and then got rid of jobs! No wonder he lost people see right thru him !
-
Trump's popularity confirms the reality of failed economic recovery and desperation in America
-
First, Justin P.. Spelling counts. Second, you haven't done your homework if you think Donald Trump is some kind of employment saviour.
-
Hillary won't have motivate her voters - the fear of Trump will do that for her.
-
No one is talking much about *who* is voting for Trump in the primaries. He's getting support from people who are crawling out of the woodwork to participate - many most likely for the first time - because he's spouting what they want to hear. His hateful rhetoric is attracting like-minded voters who never bothered to vote before. Is that something to be encouraged?
Donald Trump has been endorsed publicly by the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis and the like. This is not a good thing. -
Trump doesn't care about actually governing his country.
He's the kid who trips, pushes and bribes his way to the podium, only to throw away the trophy.
Trump would quickly tire of his new toy, the same way he tires of business ventures, personal assistants and wives. -
Trump supporters who think the man is independent of the corporate interest's of his friends are either daft or living on another planet.
-
Trump confirms Democrats will hold White House for another term
-
Musotrumpolini trying to bully his way into the White House! Not surprised...I'd rather have a week of riots that this idiot for the next 4 years.. Hilary is no better
-
Trump is another war machine, and that is all that matters.. Don't for one second think the cultural marxists running the show now really care whether it's hillary, or trump. As long as it's not Bernie, they are good to go. It's all about distraction. Everyone scream at trump... Altogether now, verbalize your great fears, divide, incite violence... Do anything but pay attention to the genocide being committed in Yemen, or Hillary's mountainous criminal past... Be lemmings and scream at the big orange wolf.
-
The west was always gonna be Sanders' but the lead Clinton has will be tough to overcome. Clinton is at 108% of the 'goal' delegates so far, which assumes strong Bernie love in west.
-
Trump support seems to be coming from a disgruntled sector of Americans who likely have never been politically active in the past. Supporters who long to lay blame for their lackluster performance in life itself.
-
Donald Trump's campaign style is intended to capture the vote of the largest voting group in the US. This group comprises of the white lower-middle and working classes. The majority of these folks are semi-literate at best, fundamentally christian, rascist in general, and anti-muslim in particular. Mr Trump's personal lifestyle flies in the face of all of this. He is very well educated and clever; he is generous and a philanthropist; he hires people for their abilities regardless of race, creed or colour.
-
Hillary is beholden to her large donors.
Bernie is beholden to the people.
Trump is beholden to his ego. -
If you watched CNN last night they did a breakdown of who voted for Trump in the primaries. It put to bed the presumption that everyone who votes for him are non- educated neanderthals . The people who voted for him last night crossed all social and economic groups , rich to poor, educated to not so educated. This snobbery from the left that anyone who doesn't agree with them are stupid, misogynist, racist non-humans is in and of itself stupid, racist and bigoted.
