CBC Forum: What steps should be taken to make Parliament more family-friendly?

  • If I applied for a 9 to 5 job, I understand completely. Being an MP is not 9-5 Your lucky if you can carve out an hour at the end of a day before sleeping or 4 hours for family in a week. Someone should share the statistics on how many divorces, separations occur for MP's. Families torn apart especially for those whos ridings are not in the capital region. Current work schedule, including constituency time is such that we do a great disservice to those canadians who can make a contribution to our nation when we ask those who seek office to choose between family, children and that calling. Most wisely choose their family (children) and never make the contribution that could raise the level and quality of MP and debate.
