The 12th annual Fulda Challenge is now

treated water at the City's
As a result, the City is asking
people to stay home this
morning and conserve water,
as it will take a number of
hours to re-fill the treated
water reservoirs from the
main city reservoir.

City of Iqaluit closed due to water problems.
A water main burst near the high school last night,
unleashing a flood of water that drained a large
part of the city's reservoir.
At this point, the amount of water left
is not enough to meet the communities' needs.
The City of Iqaluit is closing all non-essential services,
and asking people to stay home and conserve water.
Arif Sayani is the director of planning and
development with the City of Iqaluit.
" We're shutting down all non-essential services,
we're urging all organizations and all businesses
to do the same for the morning.
And we're urging all residents to stay home
and conserve water. Do not use water unless
you absolutely have to.
This is just to make sure that we can provide
water to the organizations that need it, like the
The water main burst near midnight.
City crews were out shortly after that
with heavy equipment to blast culverts
and help guide the flow of the water to the bay.
City and government staff were attempting
to close the pipe around 5am this morning.
Sayani says the reservoirs will fill in six
or seven hours. The cause of the break
is not known at this point.
The high school had been closed
for the past two days while crews
were working on these pipes.
