We've received many, many comments to the live blog tonight. Here are a few:
I wonder how the Conservative MPs will do, without Harper and the PMO directing them with an iron hand? Are the ones who survived actually the cream of the crop? Able to be effective on their own?

Unfortunately due to our electoral system, my riding sends an MP to Ottawa whom over 60 % of the voters did NOT vote for....
Time to change that system, me thinks! :)BenGaiaat 1:50 AM

So, I'm fairly new to the whole election and Politics thing we got here, but let me get this straight, and perhaps my number don't add up, forgive me, but I am new. The liberals have a 7.5% lead in total votes, yet, hold 80 more seats in the house? Does the west even matter? I don't understand, how is this fair, and why would I want to bother voting in the future?
BlackflyCanadaat 1:49 AM
I really respect Elizabeth May. I hope she sticks around.
Jason Kingat 1:48 AM
So, I find it very interesting how people said how wrong it was for the Harper government to have a majority with 39.67% of the vote when it looks that the Liberals could possibly have even less by the end of this

Congratulations Canada. On behalf of all the expats that had our vote stripped from us, thank you for not needing us. And Alberta? What you thinking? Almost want to burn my U of C degree.

I hope they stay true and offer electoral reform. Then again if they did they would always get minority governments so there really isn't anything in it for the Liberals to offer electoral reform.
thecheesecakemanat 2:41 AM
You should vote because it does make a difference, however, even myself being a whole life liberal, i believe that we shoudl adopt proportional representation model as opposed to the current one for elections. although i'm definetly not complaining this time around ;)

CBC Decision Desk, which in short is a computer program that figures out the math on the fly, backed up by a handful of reporters who give final say in case they think the computer is being presumptuous.
How is it that winners have been declared in ridings where only 80/206 polls are completed? There are some ridings where the winner has been declared, the polls are not all reported, yet the difference is less than 300 votes to the second-place candidate. How is this decided?

Perhaps his creditable record in domestic and foreign affairs will be remembered more fondly when the alternative becomes clear. For now, though, the sheer nastiness of the Harper style looms large in his defeat.
Stephen Harper's legacy: Good, bad and a dose of ugly
The Harper decade ends with a tangled legacy: a louder foreign policy, lower taxes, a balanced budget, and an abrasive political style that alienated both friend and foe. -

Add 100 seats to the house of Commons
Distribute by % of vote
Allow the parties to fill the seatsJerry Houltat 2:58 AM
That's a slim official majority, if his speech is an indication of his leadership style, maybe he won't whip back benchers so much. NDP would pick up any slack there, though.
Alexanderat 1:31 AM
Let me use the useless comment that progressives use against conservatives. Justin over 60% of the people voted against you. You don't have a mandate. Now remember you said you would get ride of the first past the post system. So on the basis of your rationale your Majority is illegitimate. I wonder if your idea of representation by population just went out the window with your new majority gov't. Me thinks it did.

26.4 million eligible voters in Canada... does anyone have the total of how many actually voted? To me, in the end, that is more important than who won. Exercising our democratic right to vote.
Kevin Klerksat 1:26 AM
Trudeau is all emotional fluff, without any substance. I hope his handlers will come up with some beneficial actions for him to do in office, other than spieling fluff. Hopefully, some substance will come from somewhere. Let's hope. Otherwise, he may go down in history as having only one thing going for him: Stephen Harper.

Feel great to be Canadian again. Being a Canadian is not simply about taxes and economy. It's about compassion, peace loving, helping each other climbing the social ladder. conservatives missed all that qualities and ,we felt it strongly in the nine year tenure of Harper.

I really was taken by the post-election interview with Joe Clark. Very kind and sincere words about Justin Trudeau and his father's advice to young Trudeau about always showing respect to your opponent.. Since moving to Calgary last year from back east, I've heard a lot of older people out here demonizing Justin for being a "Trudeau". I would love them to be able to hear what Joe Clark had to say. A man who was a PM (from Alberta) and then lost to Pierre Trudeau but who understands Canadians far better than the CPC do.. They'd certainly begin to realize just how great a man Joe Clark truly is, and probably understand where Stephen Harper fell short if they could hear Joe's interview from London tonight.

Here's hoping Trudeau repeals the C-37 citizenship law as well! It creates second-class citizens and tears families apart!
