Good morning! The election campaign is in three provinces this morning.
Canada election 2015: Where the leaders are Monday
Two of the three main party leaders will campaign in British Columbia today. -
Our reporters in the field today:
Margo McDiarmid is with the Liberals, Evan Dyer is reporting from the NDP campaign and Hannah Thibedeau is with the Conservatives. -
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau's event (now underway) is a town hall hosted by CARP (Canadian Association of Retired People).
* CARP president Moses Znaimer introduces Liberal candidate Adam Vaughan
* Vaughan will then introduce Trudeau
* Trudeau will lead a 20-minute town hall taking questions from the audience. Liberals say the questions are chosen by CARP, some of whom are Liberals.
* There will be media availability afterwards. -
From CBC's Margo McDiarmid:
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau pledged more help for Canadian seniors today with a promise to restore the eligibility for their benefits back to age 65.
Trudeau made the announcement at the Zoomer complex in Toronto's Liberty Village surrounded by members of CARP, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons.
Trudeau says his government would help lift hundreds of thousands of seniors out of poverty.
"Far too many Canadians are anxious about their retirement these days," Trudeau's prepared comments said. "After a lifetime of hard work, our seniors should not have to struggle to make ends meet."
The Liberal plan includes a promise to restore the eligibility for old-age security and the guaranteed income supplement back to age 65, a new seniors price index to make sure those benefits keep up with rising costs and a pledge not to cut pension income splitting for seniors.
Trudeau also took at shot at NDP Leader Tom Mulcair: "Unlike Thomas Mulcair who is adopting Stephen Harper's budget and rushing to eliminate the deficit in just six months, Liberals are able to invest more in our seniors because of the choices we are making." -
As Trudeau continues his speech in Toronto, here's a look at just how close the race is:More agreement in today's polls:
Innovative: 31% NDP, 30% LPC, 28% CPC
Abacus: 31% NDP, 29% LPC, 29% CPC
Nanos: 31% NDP, 30% LPC, 30% CPC9:27 AM - 14 Sep 2015- Reply

Head of CARP Toronto chapter asks about the Liberals affordable housing strategy and funding co-ops.
Trudeau says his top priority is investing in Canadians and balancing the budget by 2019, instead of balancing the budget right away.
He touts the party's promised "historic" investment in infrastructure, including in housing. -
Next questioner asks what he thinks about NDP Leader Tom Mulcair calling Trudeau's appearance with Jean Chretien the "golden oldies" tour.
Trudeau says he's proud to appear with Canadians of all generations. -

Here's our story about Trudeau's seniors announcement:
Justin Trudeau courts seniors with pension pledge
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau pledged more help for Canadian seniors today with a promise to bolster the Canada Pension Plan and increase incomes for low-income seniors. -
Here's the official Conservative statement about today's surplus announcement:
The protection of our economy is our number one priority. Amid increasing instability in the global economy, our Conservative Government’s Economic Action Plan is working; delivering new jobs and economic growth through lower taxes and a balanced budget.
Today, Finance Canada confirmed that under our Conservative Government’s careful economic stewardship, we ran a near $2B surplus in the 2014-2015 fiscal year, one full year ahead of schedule. This is in addition to last month’s news that we have confirmed a five-billion-dollar surplus for the first three months of the current fiscal year.
Our low-tax, balanced budget plan has helped the Canadian economy grow for the seventh straight year and create nearly 1.3 million net new jobs – the best job creation record in the G7. -

From CP's Melanie Marquis:
The scene was a little surreal: in the middle of an election campaign, a party leader was making an announcement in an early childhood centre -- a location with high photo-op potential -- to three journalists, in front of an empty play structure.
"I feel alone," a local reporter commented.
Welcome to the Bloc Quebecois' campaign.
The day before, Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe had presided over an energetic gathering of some 700 candidates and party members at the party's general council. This event, Duceppe has said since thebeginning of the marathon campaign, marked the launch of his party's "real" campaign.
This has yet to manifest itself in reality, either in media coverage or partisan fervour. There are rarely more than two journalists at Duceppe's press conferences, even when they're held in downtown Montreal, where all the major media outlets have offices. - Canadian Press

CBC's David Cochrane points out that the announcement of the federal government's $1.9 billion surplus for the 2014-2015 fiscal year comes at good time in the campaign for Conservative Leader Stephen Harper: a debate set for Thursday and hosted by the Globe and Mail is focused solely on the economic platforms of the Liberals, NDP and Conservatives.

Liberal, NDP views reflect 'deep hostility' to small business, Harper says
Stephen Harper delivered a two-pronged attack Sunday against his main rivals for their positions on small business while playing up his own credentials as a steward of the economy. -
Munk Debates organizers say they will announce the final rules and format for its Sept. 28 election debate on Canada’s foreign policy at noon ET. The Liberal campaign had expressed concern the debate wouldn't be bilingual enough.

The federal civil service. How to reinvigorate a once respected and trusted organization now sadly cowed and bent.
