What has been the most neglected topic of the campaign so far?
The issue that leaders are avoiding is the ridiculous growing cost of post secondary education and what will be done about student debt.

What has been the most neglected topic of the campaign so far?
As a research scientist, I'd really like to hear more about the leaders' views on funding for science (federal grants, jobs), muzzling of government scientist and the shut down of world-class research facilities. Embarrassed by questions from international colleagues about 'what happened to science in Canada?'.

As we wait for Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, here's a summary of NDP Leader Tom Mulcair's announcement earlier this morning, from the CBC's Evan Dyer:
Tom Mulcair is promising to spend half a billion dollars over his first mandate to improve Canadians' access to family doctors and family clinics.
The $300 million would pay to build or expand 200 clinics. The remaining $200 million would be given to the provinces to allow them to pay recruitment grants to doctors, nurse practitioners and other health care providers to attract them to regions lacking in services.
The NDP says the measure is aimed at hiring 7,000 health-care providers. Provinces would administer the recruitment grants, which would range from $15,000 to $50,000 per individual, as they see fit.
Mulcair made the announcement at the Mid-Main medical and dental clinic in the riding of Vancouver-Kingsway. It's Mulcair's first event in NDP-held territory since arriving in the province. Don Davies won the seat in 2008 and held it with just over half the total vote in 2011.
Both of Mulcair's events in Vancouver yesterday were forays into Liberal-held territory. He announced a plan to expand homecare for seniors in the Vancouver Quadra riding of Joyce Murray, followed up by a large outdoor rally on the waterfront in the Vancouver Centre riding held by Hedy Fry.
The New Democrats say that rally was their biggest yet in the campaign. -

There are these deep anxieties in Canada, in the United States, about changing demographics, changing populations, people who are different. And the question is: how are political leaders dealing with those anxieties?

What do voters hear in Conservatives' message on refugees?
Often times when a politician is speaking, you need to read between the lines to find what they are really saying. That's often most important when the topic is race or religion. -
What has been the most neglected topic of the campaign so far?
Privacy and online surveillance aren't being discussed enough, probably because no party with a chance at governing wants to draw any attention to an issue they want to quietly legislate on without drawing attention to the reduced freedoms and compromises to personal privacy.

What has been the most neglected topic of the campaign so far?
Three of 4 national parties support electoral reform and yet there has been no discussion of our antiquated electoral system, which repeatedly has elected false majority governments who represent far less than half of those who voted and less than a quarter of registered voters. We're long past due to bring in proportional representation and end the winner-take-all system.

From CP's Murray Brewster:
Despite the uproar over the Conservative government's new election law, the country's chief electoral officer said Monday he's confident those who want to vote on Oct. 19 will get a chance to do so.
Marc Mayrand said his agency is going to great lengths to inform people, particularly online and in aboriginal communities.
New, legislative requirements for identification should not cause problems, as long as voters prepare themselves, he said.
"I think we'll see a good election," he said. "We have taken various measures to ensure no one is denied the right to vote."
Mayrand downplayed opposition party warnings, which resounded during the divisive debate over Bill C-24, that thousands will be unable to vote because of the new rules.
However, he placed the burden of exercising democratic rights on the shoulders of electors.
"If anybody is turned away from the polls, or anybody stays home because of concerns, I think there should be no concerns there," he said. "I think there is a way [to vote]. If you're concerned about your ability to establish your ID and address, please contact us." - Canadian Press
