Once the election was called that data was pulled offline, shutting down an impartial source of information to anyone who might want a serious discussion of fuel prices during the long weeks of campaigning. - Neil Macdonald
Why is NRCan's fuel price report suspended during election?
Want to know why pump prices are still high when the cost of crude is so low? It has a lot to do with refinery margins, something Natural Resources Canada was documenting regularly until the election began, Neil Macdonald points out. -

French-language debate triggers hot exchanges on niqab, economy, national unity
NDP Leader Tom Mulcair pushed back against attacks from all sides during the French-language leaders' debate, which had tempers flaring on topics ranging from the Senate, national unity and the right to wear the niqab. -
Much of the social media talk this morning is about this exchange about the niqab from last night's leadership debate.
-
The niqab is such a hot issue that even Andrew Coyne and Chantal Hebert got passionate about it on the At Issue panel.

CBC's Evan Dyer on Tom Mulcair's announcement this morning:
Tom Mulcair says the NDP will add $105 million over three years to programs aimed at making Canada's forestry sector more competitive.
Mulcair made the announcement while visiting a forestry college in the small town of Saint-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier near Quebec City.
The announcement came the morning after the French language debate, where Mulcair accused Stephen Harper of allowing manufacturing and other sectors of the economy to languish, while focusing all of his attention on the oil and gas industry.
In a line he's also used in English, Mulcair accused Harper of "putting all the eggs in one basket, and then dropping the basket."
The $105 million would go to modernizing forest product manufacturing plants, research and development of new building materials, and promotion of Canadian forest products overseas.
The NDP say that based on the performance of the existing programs, the new money could be expected to leverage about $270 million in private sector funds.
Stephen Harper also headed deeper into Quebec following the debate, visiting Rivière du Loup. - in Vancouver

Mulcair also said this morning he'll be running a full slate of candidates in Manitoba, despite Stefan Jonasson dropping out over social media comments.
