IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT ...
Justin Trudeau appeared to show he can stand the heat and stay in the kitchen -- at least for half a minute. Before the Munk debate on foreign affairs, the Liberal leader popped into a bakery in Toronto to shake hands and take photos with party supporters and customers. He went to the back of the store, grabbed a large wooden paddle-shaped instrument called a peel, pulled a large loaf of calabrese bread from a commercial oven. The photo-op lasted about 30 seconds. Trudeau then went behind the coffee counter and served up espressos. - Canadian Press

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper held a rally at the Ottawa airport before departing for the debate in Toronto. About 80 people were lined up along a route to Harper's airplane. While many whipped out their cameras and mobile phones to snap selfies and group photos with the prime minister, one woman sought to memorialize the event in a decidedly old-fashioned manner -- she asked Harper for his autograph. - Canadian Press

WRONG WAY JOE
As people began arriving for the foreign policy debate Monday, there was much confusion about how to get inside Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall. Among those unsure about how to get in -- Finance Minister Joe Oliver, who has been largely unseen this campaign. His aids initially directed him to a back door -- but unbeknownst to them, that route led right into the media room, where dozens of reporters were awaiting the start of the debate. Oliver started walking toward the entrance before a member of the prime minister's team realized where he was headed and quickly intervened. Oliver was whisked in via another door. So much for that scrum. - Canadian Press

Here's our full recap of last night's debate:
Munk leaders' debate: Harper, Trudeau battle over bill to revoke citizenship
Testy exchanges between Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau over legislation that can strip citizenship of those convicted of terrorism-related offences marked one of the more heated moments during Monday night's debate on foreign policy. -
Debate analysis by Neil Macdonald, including some states-side reaction to Conservative Leader Stephen Harper's assertion that "I have a great relationship with Barack Obama."
Oh yeah, BFFs for sure. They have a serious bromance happening. You've met them, right?
The myth of Canada's 'special relationship' with the U.S.
To give Stephen Harper the benefit of the doubt, Neil Macdonald writes, Barack Obama is not an easy guy to bond with. But even in the loose confines of an election debate it's no use trying to pretend everything is hunky-dory when it's far from it. -

Agriculture ministers and representatives from the dairy industry in Quebec and Ontario want to make sure the federal trade minister doesn't give up too much in Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.
They are off to shadow Ed Fast at the talks in Atlanta, where other countries will be pushing for greater access to Canada's tightly managed dairy sector.
The Harper government hopes to reach a deal before the weekend to establish the world's largest free-trade zone. - Canadian Press

Strong UN in Canada's interest, foreign affairs officials advise
Advice prepared by department officials for the next minister of foreign affairs, obtained by CBC News, says Canada has a "strong national interest in sustaining" the United Nations as a "means of achieving our foreign policy priorities." -

The idea that someone can't be a political candidate because of a Facebook comment they made three years ago seems ridiculous.
Replacement candidate scramble goes down to the wire
The deadline has dropped to register as a federal election candidate, and that raises the stakes in a tight three-way race plagued by social media missteps. -

Jr Grovervia Facebook at 8:30 AM
I think last night's debate will seal the deal for another Conservative minority - Harper definitely has his downside, but Trudeau and Muclair looked out of their league. And the truth is, that is the very best possible arrangement for all Canadians, whether they know it or not.
Chris Weldonvia Facebook at 10:03 AM
Best line of the night. "You can vote in the same government we've been voting in for the last 150, trading scandal for scandal, sponsorship scandal for senate scandal, or you can vote for a change in parliament." Even if the NDP get in and do poorly, the message that we Canadians will not accept the back and forth corrupt vs less corrupt party "choice" of the US isn't going to happen here.
