VIDEO: In 2004, an electrical fire knocked out power and lights aboard HMCS Chicoutimi. The pitch-black sub filled with smoke. Once the fire was out, one submariner died en route to hospital. Today, a new study found 60% of the crew developed PTSD within five years.
Spent some time today w/ Derek Speirs. He was on HMCS Chicoutimi when fire broke out in 2004. He now lives with a broken back as a result of a PTSD induced seizure. He also has problems breathing.
