Said Yatim appeared completely unafraid. "I am pointing a firearm at him at 10 feet or less. And he couldn't have cared less."
Described Yatim as having his jaw clenched, eyes wide, body tense. Said he looked like "that guy in the bar looking for a fist fight."
"My order was reasonable. His behaviour was unreasonable."
Said Yatim never indicated he was surrendering: "Mr Yatim was in it right until the end."
Said there was no way to tell from where he was standing if there were others on the streetcar. Said he had to make a decision to save his own life and those of others.
Said assessing the situation thought the safest course of action was to arrest Yatim on streetcar.
He admits it wasn't the safest place to position himself but he said he had a duty to protect the public.
He said he strategically placed himself in front of the doors of the streetcar to put himself between Yatim and the public, to communicate with Mr. Yatim and to see what he was doing.
Forcillo said he was about 10 feet from Yatim but he felt he was close enough to touch the streetcar even though he was not.
He says the point they reinforce at training is knives are dangerous and a person can close in quickly. The size of a knife doesn't matter. He said in Toronto, officers' vests only protect against bullets, they offer only some protection against slashes.

Said he pulled his weapon to let Yatim the situation is serious and he was putting Forcillo and himself in danger if he didn't comply.
Said he felt Yatim was tracking him -- following his movements with the knife.
Said "If I'm injured by the person with the knife, I'm unable to protect other people on the street."
Says most people on north side of street, some on south side of street.
He parked the car about 20 ft west of streetcar. First thing seeing is lot of people here, crying, panicked, some with phones out.
Says it took him a minute to arrive on scene.
Said he and his partner didn't discuss a plan on the way to the hotshot because Forcillo was focusing on driving and listening to the dispatch call for whatever info they could glean.
He said could mean nobody has been hurt, could be someone has been hurt but hasn't called 911. Says these things are dynamic and by the time he arrived there could be someone hurt.
The dispatcher says "No injuries at this time time." Brauti asked what that means to Forcillo:
Dispatcher puts out a call 1447.1 meaning if you're not doing anything urgent, officers should attend the call.
The dispatcher assigned the call to Forcillo and his partner.
Said he knew from dispatcher that he and partner were heading to location where a person has a knife.
Forcillo said as heard the call knew he was in the right zone and close to the hotshot location.

That was the call about Yatim being on the streetcar with a knife.
About a minute later they got a "hotshot". Hotshots are emergency response calls -- urgent calls.
Partner got a tea and as gets into the car, Forcillo said he set the radio up to link with dispatcher for calls
He went to College and Borden to grab a sandwich because said knew was going to be so busy that they would work through their
lunch.
