  • John's Weather Journal for August 25th

It’ll be a fairly quiet Friday here in the southeast. Today will be mainly sunny and breezy with a warm high of 26.

I am tracking a low with a front attached heading through Saskatchewan today. That front my make it to the SK/MB border later this afternoon or into the evening and produce a few showers later today and even a few thunderstorms in the west on Saturday.

The front doesn’t reach the Red River Valley until later in the afternoon or early evening. We’ll see a few showers at that time, followed by clearing through the later part of the evening.

Futurecast showing the frontal position on Saturday at 6pm

The brighter day of the weekend looks to be Sunday with a return to sunshine and a return to above normal temps that will last for several days. Expect a high of 26 on Sunday, even warmer as we head into early next week.

My forecast yesterday called for the risk of fog early Thursday morning. Between 6am and 8am, Portage la Prairie visibility was between 0 and 600 metres and Dauphin was down to 200 metres between 7am and 9am.

Since the morning fog dissipated, we are enjoying a sunny day, not just in the south, but right across the northern sections of the province. Expect afternoon highs near 24 degrees in the south, and close to that in the north as well.

Friday will also be mainly sunny and breezy with a warmer high of 26.

As we head into the weekend, cloud cover is back and, right now, it looks like the chance for rain is slight on Saturday but still there. I think we will see some sunny breaks early but the scattered showers will show up late afternoon and evening.

The brighter day of the weekend looks to be Sunday with a return to sunshine after a few early morning showers.

Looking at next week and there is decent agreement in the computer guidance for some late season heat.

Well, it’s Wednesday, and it’s raining again. Kind of an interesting theme this summer.

The occasional showers or light rain will wrap up here in the northern Red River Valley by later this afternoon, followed by clearing this evening. That clearing happens much earlier in the west and up near Dauphin and Swan River.

With the rapid cooling under clear skies tonight, expect some patchy fog across southern Manitoba overnight and into Thursday morning.

Below is a look at the Visibility Forecast for early on Thursday.

Once the morning fog dissipates, we’ll enjoy a sunny Thursday with an afternoon high near the seasonal normal of 24. It’ll be a little breezy out of the southeast.

Friday will also be mainly sunny with a warmer high of 26.

As we head into the weekend, cloud cover is back and, right now, it looks like the chance for rain is slight on Saturday but still there.

The brighter day of the weekend looks to be Sunday with a return to sunshine.
