Some more comments to the live blog about the recent police news conference:
They need to be vague! What if there is a second suspect that is listening to the news conference? Until they've sorted it all out for our safety - patience is best for all.
beeat 2:53 PM
it takes time to get all the details....and accuracy is paramount for our security force. they do not follow the same guidelines as twitter.........
another concerned neighborat 2:52 PM
That wasn't a new conference! That was a sham... The police need to catch up to reality today of Social Media and Media in General.. it would have been nice if they were honest and clear! I learn't more on CBC and Twitter than that scam!
Not Proud Canadianat 2:52 PM
We all know police suspect a second gunman, but to say so at this point and be proved wrong would make them look foolish. However, remaining stuck on the "too soon to comment" also makes you look foolish. We are all adults, concerned for our safety. There was no mass panic during, and there won't be now either.
Alicia B.at 2:51 PM
To the reporter that shouted "We're trying to inform the public", the public also may include a gunman. I believe police/RCMP were telling Ottawa what it needs to hear for their safety, and that they are handling the situation. That's sufficient for me.

Here is a sampling of comments to the live blog, many of them about the police news conference held earlier this afternoon.
People might *want* to know, but people don't *have* to know. In these situations information should never be given out unless it fulfills more than curiosity relief.
Edward Geeat 3:14 PM
As far as I am concerned, the 'need-to-know' of random media bashing outspoken people sitting at home while people die on the street is a joke. Let them do their work. They will tell us when the time is right, and be glad you can share dinner with your family tonight. Others do not have that luxury.Interested viewerat 3:10 PM
This feels like the day 9/11 took place... Things are going to change
Nick Fat 3:03 PM
Well that will change that pretty town forever.
Richard Headat 2:56 PM
If there is a second gunman, he knows he's being hunted. Blast the media with information. Use the city's heightened awareness and paranoia to help officials catch him.
Alicia B.at 3:00 PM
I watched the question session on CBC, with the Mayor and Police Delegates from Ottawa. I was appalled at the scope and focus of the Journalist's questions. The 2 points that Canadians want to know, at all costs, are 'Can you assure the Canadians you can keep them safe; Can you assure Canadians you can take care of the unfolding situation and everyone involved?' As to the nature and motive....those are secondary questions, answers to which most are confident, given the vigilance of CBC, will be answered in due course. Bottom line, Shame on you.
Donnaat 2:58 PM
All very well, but for those of us who live in the area it would be nice to have some idea of what the chances are of being shot are if we wander out to buy groceries. If there's a second gunman, surely police have some duty to let us know.
Ed Rowlandat 3:06 PM
My prayers to the victims and the families involved in this horible event. But Ottawa and Canada need to stay strong and show people that do things like this will not take us down.
Ottawa Strong at 3:06 PM
tweets and comments mostly seem sadly out of touch...how can anyone know really anything yet, they are dealing with containing the emergency not researching it yet; the worst would be to say no other gunman and be wrong
