If you're in St. John's & Northeastern Newfoundland it's nice to see the Sun has finally returned... even if it is for a Monday. We have a really nice day set for most of the Island today with Sun & Cloud and temperatures into the low 20's. We'll see building clouds over Western & Central Newfoundland this afternoon and a few showers moving for this evening and overnight, as a front sinks Southward. That front will bring a mainly cloudy day with some showers for the Northern Peninsula & Southeastern Labrador. Further North, Lab City to Happy Valley-Goose Bay a quiet day with Sunny breaks as the front kicks out. Temps in the teens.
Tomorrow looks cool again for Metro & the Northeast Coast, as that front moves in overnight with a chance of showers & drizzle, which lingers into the morning hours and a shift to Northeast winds. Clearing skies for Tuesday afternoon, but highs 15-18 again for Metro, the Northeast & into Central. A nice one for the South & West Coasts with temps near 20. Labrador looks unsettled on Tuesday as our next system moves in with clouds and showers.
That system will kick out to the Labrador Sea, with clouds and showers slowly clearing for Labrador. Meanwhile the cold front from that system looks set to roll across the Island with some building clouds and a few afternoon showers possible for West & Central. Metro & Eastern Newfoundland looks great with Sun & Cloud, temps back into the low 20's.
Thursday - Friday - CRISTOBAL
A new trough looks set to slide in across the Island with clouds & showers for most on Thursday. This trough and how it interacts with Cristobal is going to be key in what happens as the Tropical Storm moves North this week. As of now forecast models are in pretty good agreement that Cristobal will stay to our Southeast, with a track near the Southeast tip of the Grand Banks. Certainly close enough for us to keep an eye on it this week and likely close enough, that our trough moving through on Friday will gain some energy and bring the Island some periods of rain and some gusty Northeast winds. Stay tuned. It's still a long way out!
Much will depend on what Cristobal ultimately decides to do, but as of now we're looking at our Tropical friend set to move out of the region Friday night with a ridge of High pressure building in for a nice Saturday across the Island. Sunday's forecast is a little more uncertain with the American GFS bringing a new front with clouds and showers in across the Island from West to East. The Euro & Canadian models however, keep things bright with a warm Southwesterly flow across the Island for Sunday... and hold the showers off until Sunday night and Monday. We'll keep our fingers crossed, because after this August (or Saugust as my friend & colleague David Cochrane phrased it) we deserve a nice long weekend!
Stay tuned for the latest with your tonight, Tuesday & 7 day forecasts, this evening on Here & Now. See you then!
