THIS IS A WARNING THAT SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED OR

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CURRENTLY SOUTH OF NOVA SCOTIA WILL TRACK
NORTHEASTWARD AND PASS SOUTHEAST OF THE AVALON PENINSULA OVERNIGHT.
SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM HAS BEGUN OVER SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND
AND WILL PERSIST OVER MOST OF THE ISLAND TONIGHT BEFORE BEGINNING TO
TAPER OFF SATURDAY MORNING. THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10
TO 15 CENTIMETERS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE AVALON PENINSULA WITH LESSER
ACCUMULATIONS FURTHER WEST.
IN ADDITION, STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS WILL RESULT IN REDUCED
VISIBILITIES IN LOCALIZED BLOWING SNOW, ESPECIALLY OVER EXPOSED
AREAS. THE MOTORING PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO EXERCISE CAUTION IF
TRAVELLING FOR THE HOLIDAYS TONIGHT OR SATURDAY. -

I talked about the NAO on the Blog on Monday. Negative NAO = Blocking High pressure, like last Winter. Systems can stall out over NL for days. But the NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) is in positive phase right now. No Blocking. Active pattern, lots of Low's moving through. So it appears it's status quo for the next little while anyway.
