The commission is now taking a break for lunch.
Accurso talking about his first meeting with Louis Laberge, president of the Fédération des travailleurs du Québec .
Health and safety at that time was important because there were a lot of work accidents, Accurso says
Laberge wanted to work on that to create awareness of workplace safety. He wanted bosses and workers to work together.
Laberge wanted that everyone be well paid on a construction site. "That was a good attitude," Accurso said.
He's now talking about the business when he took over the company in the early 80s.
And his relationship with Robert Abdallah at that time. "I was very surprised to see a man my age. I was quite young."
They would later become good friends, evidence before the commission has shown
He had young kids, I had young kids. We were the same age... We didn't work together any more, but we continued to be friends.
We developed a friendship...
We were friends (during the time he was city manager).
Sonia Lebel: You saw him less when he was a city manager?
Accurso: Yes, he was very busy. A job like City Manager...He was very, very busy.
Laberge liked playing cards. We went to his house Friday nights and he would order big pizzas from the pizza place near his house... It would start at 8 or 9 p.m. and finish at 8 or 9 a.m. the next day.
